There will be around 22 million cancer survivors living in the USA by 2030, EPOCH wants to empower them to live as fully as possible by supporting the rehabilitation professionals that treat them during and beyond their primary life-saving treatments.
To date EPOCH has provided scholarships to 15 rehabilitation professionals in rural areas of the USA and internationally to go through PORi training to become specialists in oncology rehabilitation.

The Issue

Only around 2% to 5% of patients with a cancer diagnosis are referred to the rehabilitation they need to thrive in survivorship. The problem we're trying to solve is threefold:
  1. Therapists are not typically taught how to treat oncology patients as part of their college curriculum
  2. There is not enough research out there to support the efficacy of rehabilitation - we know its critical but some insurance companies (and some physicians) can't see the value
  3. Programs that focus solely on oncology rehabilitation are fairly rare

Our Philosophy

With a growing population of cancer survivors, estimated to be 22.2 million by 2030, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Exercise Physiologists, Social Workers, Psychologists, Speech Language Pathologists, Registered Dietician Nutritionists, and other health providers are crucial to empowering survivors to live their lives as fully as possible.

EPOCH seeks to support research and support these providers in caring for survivors throughout and beyond their primary cancer treatment.

Our Mission

EPOCH's mission is to support the continuing education, research, and the development of rehabilitation programs by professional providers whose focus is on the physical and psycho-social health of cancer survivors beyond their primary treatment regimens of chemotherapy, radiation therapy or cancer surgeries. Patients with a cancer diagnosis deserve to thrive - EPOCH is making sure the rehabilitation services people need are there for them!

Upcoming Fundraising Events

Tunes for TaTas
Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church in Denver, CO will be the setting for a benefit concert for EPOCH this October. This is A Breast Cancer Celebration Concert Featuring The Ivy Street Ensemble. Take a look at Tunes for TaTas from 2019.

Each year Cathy holds a concert to Celebrate Breast Cancer Survivors, and to honor those that have lost the battle: "I hope you will join me in a Celebration Concert during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. While the title of my concert is light-hearted, the reason  behind it is serious and real. Please join me for a fun evening of music donated by my colleagues at the Colorado Symphony, Mile High Flute Benders, and a young cellist this year!"

This year is Tuesday, October 18 at 7pm at Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church in Denver, CO. Music will be done around 7:45pm and a small reception afterwards.

Donations are accepted for EPOCH - a non profit organization that supports Oncology Rehabilitation Therapy training!

Thank you to Cathy & Connie for all of your hard work organizing and hosting this event - it's going to be very special!

To date EPOCH has provided 15 PORi scholarships to participants in the USA (who are developing programs in more rural areas) and internationally - Cairo, Egypt; Namibia, Africa; Philippines; Qatar; Seoul, Korea; and Saudi Arabia.
